FAQs

Why should I buy Butter Cups & Beauty Bars handmade soap when I can get more stuff for less money at Wal-mart or the grocery store?

1. Because of the natural glycerin. Glycerin is a humectant, meaning it attracts moisture to your skin. Glycerin is a natural by-product of the soapmaking process and while commercial soap manufacturers remove the glycerin for use in their more profitable lotions and creams, our handcrafted soaps retain glycerin in each and every bar. In essence, buying commercial soaps means buying bars of detergent.

Many of our customers tell us they have had problems with ordinary soap, even designer bars don't seem to help their dry skin. Once they use Butter Cups & Beauty Bars' natural moisturizing rich soaps they are converted.

2. Generally, commercial soaps carried at most chain stores, are full of chemical additives.  These additives often dry out your skin and also lead to rashes and other irritations. If the commercial soap manufacturer does put in some natural ingredients along with its synthetic ones, they do so in such small quantities.  Its main purpose is to give the customer the illusion that this soap is more natural.  If you read the ingredient labels though, the soap is still primarily made with synthetic ingredients.

3. There is an art to making our fresh and clean, Junk Free body products.  We are skilled at combining the perfect balance of high quality essential oils and other natural ingredients to create products that lather, cleanse, moisturize and smell terrific.  We prepare our soaps with high quality vegetable based oils such as Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Palm Kernel Oil, Avocado Oil, Castor Oil, Wheatgerm Oil, Shea Butter, and Cocoa Butter.  We do not use animal fats!

4. All of Butter Cups & Beauty Bars' products are:

    - All Natural
    - Handmade
    - Most are Vegan (though a few of our products contain milk products, honey and beeswax)
    - Petroleum Free
    - Eco-Friendly
    - Animal Friendly
    - 100% Pure Yumminess

How do I make my handcrafted soap last longer?

1. Handcrafted soap is best stored out of water so that it air dries. Rest your soap on a draining soap dish or stand it on its side, out of the spray range of the shower head. If left in water, handcrafted soap tends to dissolve due to the soap and glycerine molecules that wash clean with water.

2. When using soaps for body cleansing, longevity improves if you avoid rubbing the bar directly onto the body. Instead, use hands, washcloth or other bathing instrument to apply the soap to your body. This will also minimize encounters with any large pieces of herbs or exfolliants.

3.  Store in a cool, dry place, preferably not under the sink if you have metal pipes or leaky pipes. (The soap's glycerin will attract moisture from condensation on pipes heated as hot water flows through them.) Many people store their soaps in linen cupboards and dresser drawers to freshen towels and clothing.

Why are some of our soaps slightly different from the rest or from the time of my order?

All of our soaps are handmade in small batches, creating unique designs, textures, and color variations that are part of our soap's handcrafted character and appeal.  You could say that our soap is perfect with it's all of its imperfections.

Why do some of our products turn a slight pink/beige/brown/purple color?

Some vanilla-based scented oils may cause a product to turn into pink, beige, brown or purple colors. Please note that this is a naturally occurring process and does not compromise the quality of the product. We have chosen NOT to add a vanilla stabilizer in our products as we feel that this is an unnecessary additive.

Do our products have an SPF?

We cannot make a medical claim such as how much our products will protect you from the sun. A lot of our butters have a natural SPF of between eight and eleven, but we cannot guarantee it due to the natural content.
